The We Always Try Society (TWATS)
The TWATS was formed in September 2000 with 12 original members, which within a few months grew to 24. Five of the original members still remain after 15 years, Noel McLarnon, Ryan Hay, Colin Robinson, Trevor Cathcart and Billy Wright. We have had 216 outings, of which 79 year old Joe McLarnon has attended 213.
Our first Captain in 2000 was Noel McLarnon and our present Captain is Stanley Price. Harris Cordiner has recently succeeded the late Albert Sloan as President.
The Society play on the last Sunday of the month, with each outing being sponsored by a team member who provides a trophy which is then played for in the same month each year. Members pay £5 for each outing which goes towards trips away, team jumpers, tee shirts etc. To add a bit of fun to the outings we impose fines for any misdemeanour’s during play, for example 50p for a ball landing in water or illegal use of a bridge. £1 for not passing the ladies tee box, 50p for not calling the captain “Mr Captain” and £2 for not wearing the society tee shirt or jumper. All monies are used for entertainment etc on Captain’s Day.
Other Poker Nights are arranged for Friday 4th & 25th November
