| PRESIDENT'S
CUP |
| After
a summer of arranging match play games for the various rounds
of the President’s Cup the original entry list was finally
whittled down to two hearty souls, Ryan Hay and Neil McKeown,
who battled it out in the final on Tuesday (9th September).
In the end the two couldn’t be separated over the 18
holes and the match went to an extra hole when Ryan Hay succeeded
in becoming the club’s 2008 Singles Champion. Congratulations
to Ryan but also to Neil who battled through all the rounds
and couldn’t be shaken off until that extra hole. Well
played both. |

Boyd played in the Irish Boys Amateur Close in the week prior

has had a great Golfing August. Playing in the Home Internationals
at Royal County Down and the British Boys at Little Ashton.
Garth left for the States on Monday 25 August to start the
3 years of his Golf Scholarship. Mum and Dad and big sister
Emma accompanied him to help settle him in and our thoughts
and best wishes from all at Donaghadee Golf Club (especially
the Juvenile Section) go with him. We look forward to seeing
him at Christmas. |

| Garth
Boyd was the only player to stay unbeaten throughout the week
in Ireland's win of the 2008 Boys Home Internationals at Royal
County Down after a thrilling finale against England which
was decided on the penultimate hole of the last match on the
course. Full of confidence Garth will head to Little Aston
Golf Club near Birmingham for the Boys Amateur Championship
hoping to finish his career at Boys level with a flourish.
This will be the last attempt at the Boys Championship for
the 18-year-old from Donaghadee, who is due to take up a scholarship
place at the University of South Alabama in September. Garth
is drawn against Billy Downing of Truro in round one, and
tees off at 8.44 on Tuesday. |
