ULSTER FOURBALL TROPHY SIDE BLOWN OFF COURSE
George Phillips took his side on the arduous journey to Monaghan and stepped off the mini-bus into a gale force wind. LADY CAPTAIN’S MATCH UPDATE
Donaghadee ladies continued their successful run on Sunday 13 June with a convincing win over Cushendall ladies in the Miele. This is an interesting format played fourball betterball with two matches at home at the same time as two matches away. Team Captain Cynthia Burne looked after the ladies at Cushendall, ably assisted by Penny Patterson at the Dee. There was much texting between the two and it is doubtful if this competition could have been played in the days before mobile phones. Click for more...
DONAGHADEE TAKE A LEAD TO MOUNT OBER IN ULSTER FOURBALL TROPHY
There are a number of club scratch golfers in competitions seeking glory in the later stages of many GUI competitions and good luck to them all. We wish them nothing but success. There are however, a small band of golfers (possibly regarded by some as weekend hackers) who are heart-scared of their handicap creeping lower than 17. Click for more...

LADIES SENIOR FOURSOMES
Linda Crawford’s Senior Foursomes team lost 3 nil at Knock and were down 11 holes so had it all to do when they played their home match at Donaghadee on Thursday 3rd June). They pulled out all the stops and won all three matches by 11 holes. The match was tied so the first pair had to play tie holes. Unfortunately Donaghadee lost on the second tie hole. Commiserations to Linda and her team but what a brilliant effort. Good luck to Knock in the next round.
IRISH MIXED FOURSOMES
Our Irish Mixed Foursomes Team faced disappointment after playing their match against Belvoir on Sunday (30th May) at Knock. Unfortunately they were beaten by the better team on the day. But, it was a great achievement to qualify for the match play stages and team captains Ivan Hagan and Rhona Farrell would like to thank everyone in the team for their efforts.
DONAGHADEE REINSTATED TO PIERCE PURCELL
I didn’t think I would be writing again this year about our Pierce Purcell adventures after our narrow defeat to Scrabo on Friday night, but Scrabo have inadvertently been disqualified from this year’s competition due to playing an ineligible player in the match against Donaghadee so we have been reinstated by the GUI to the competition and now face Bundoran in the last 16 match at Dungannon. JUNIOR CUP
Unfortunately our Junior Cup side just missed out on the qualifying spaces at Royal Belfast today. Despite a battling total of 323 on the testing parkland track (the CSS for the day was 3 over the par at 73), the team finished in 5th spot, just 4 shots too many from the clubs that finished third and fourth to claim the final 2 qualifying spots. All in all, a valiant effort from our guys who only needed that little extra ounce of lady luck on the day, but it was not to be.

PIERCE PURCELL DONAGHADEE V SCRABO
Our run in this year’s competition came to and end last night with a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Scrabo at Clandeboye. I couldn’t have asked more from my team as they gave me everything they had and unfortunately on the night Scrabo had that little bit more luck and guile and claimed a very narrow victory.
